In 1995, Karmyn won the title of Miss Louisiana in the Miss America Scholarship system. She won both the talent and swimsuit preliminaries that year. She went on to Miss America 1996 and won a non-finalist talent award for her aria Tu che di gel sei cinta from Puccini’s Opera Turandot. Karmyn toured the state of Louisiana and surrounding states promoting her B.E.S.T. M.E. (Building Esteem So They May Excel) platform encouraging ways to build self-esteem through volunteering, mentoring and school-to-work programs. She spoke at numerous schools, civic organizations as well as the Louisiana state senate. She also promoted the Just Say No to Drugs program and Arts in Education programs.
Karmyn continues to be involved with and uphold the qualities of the MAO system.
